Canvas Only or Acrylic Protection: Choosing the Right MCCS Version

At MCCS, we currently offer two presentation options: Canvas Only and Acrylic Protection.

These are not simply a “basic version” and an “upgraded version.” They represent two different approaches to displaying and preserving the artwork.

Canvas Only focuses on the texture of the canvas itself, reduced glare, and a more direct viewing experience.
Acrylic Protection focuses on long-term display, dust protection, touch protection, and easier daily maintenance.

When a digital artwork enters a real physical space, it is affected by lighting, reflections, viewing distance, humidity, and everyday care. For this reason, we recommend choosing the version that best fits your space and how you plan to display the work.

Canvas Only: The Standard MCCS Presentation

Canvas Only is the standard presentation format for MCCS editions.

This version presents the matte canvas directly, without an additional transparent protective layer. Its main strengths are a more natural viewing experience, reduced reflections, and a clearer sense of the canvas texture.

For digital artworks with rich shadows, atmosphere, and subtle tonal layers, matte canvas can help preserve the depth and mood of the image. Unlike glossy surfaces, it does not strongly reflect the surrounding environment, making it suitable for collectors who prefer a more direct and material-focused presentation.

Canvas Only is recommended for collectors who value:

• The direct texture of canvas;
• Reduced glare;
• A more natural visual atmosphere;
• A presentation closer to the artwork itself.

However, Canvas Only still requires basic care. Matte canvas should not come into contact with water, and the surface should not be wiped with a wet cloth, alcohol, cleaning liquids, or any other liquid-based products. We also recommend avoiding frequent touching, humid environments, and prolonged direct sunlight. If light dust appears, it should be removed gently with a dry, soft tool.

In simple terms, Canvas Only is generally more suitable for everyday hanging than paper-based fine art prints, but it should still be treated as an artwork — not as a washable decorative object.

Acrylic Protection: A More Practical Choice for Long-Term Display

The Acrylic Protection version includes a transparent acrylic layer over the artwork to help reduce direct contact from dust, accidental touching, and everyday environmental exposure.

This option is suitable for collectors who want extra peace of mind when displaying the work over a long period of time. It may be especially useful for living rooms, corridors, offices, or spaces with more daily movement, pets, children, or dust.

Please note that MCCS Acrylic Protection is an integrated framing option. It is not a temporary protective sheet that can be freely removed later. The acrylic layer is assembled as part of the final framed structure. For this reason, we recommend considering your lighting environment, viewing preferences, and care needs carefully before choosing this version.

The main advantages of Acrylic Protection are:

• Helps reduce direct dust contact with the artwork surface;
• Helps protect the canvas surface from accidental touching;
• Makes daily maintenance easier;
• Better suited for long-term display in everyday living spaces.

The main trade-off is reflection. Any transparent protective layer may reflect some surrounding light. This is especially noticeable with darker artworks, or when the piece faces strong lighting, windows, ceiling lights, or bright reflective surfaces.

That said, reflections can often be reduced significantly in real display conditions. Avoiding direct light sources, windows, or large bright surfaces in front of the artwork, and using softer side lighting, can help create a much better viewing experience.

Which Version Should You Choose?

If you value the original surface texture, reduced glare, and the direct presence of matte canvas, we recommend Canvas Only. This is the standard MCCS presentation and the version that best preserves the natural qualities of the canvas.

If you value dust protection, touch protection, long-term display, and easier maintenance, Acrylic Protection may be the better choice. It is more practical for everyday living spaces, but it may introduce reflections, and the integrated acrylic structure cannot be removed by the collector after purchase.

Acrylic Protection
Best for collectors who prioritize long-term protection, easier care, and peace of mind when displaying the work.

Neither version is universally better. The right choice depends on your space, lighting conditions, and how you plan to live with the artwork.

Care Recommendations

For both versions, we recommend displaying the artwork in a dry, stable environment away from prolonged direct sunlight.

For Canvas Only:

• Keep away from water;
• Do not wipe the image surface with wet cloths, alcohol, or cleaning liquids;
• Avoid frequent touching of the artwork surface;
• Avoid long-term exposure to humid environments;
• If dust appears, clean only very gently with a dry, soft tool.

For Acrylic Protection:

• Avoid wiping the surface with rough materials;
• Avoid placing the artwork directly opposite windows, strong lights, or bright reflective surfaces;
• For darker artworks, softer and indirect lighting is recommended;
• When cleaning the acrylic surface, use soft materials suitable for acrylic to avoid fine scratches.

Final Note

Canvas Only and Acrylic Protection are two different presentation choices.

The first stays closer to the canvas itself, emphasizing texture, atmosphere, and reduced reflections. The second is better suited for long-term everyday display, emphasizing protection and easier care.

MCCS uses Canvas Only as its standard presentation format, while offering Acrylic Protection as an optional choice. We hope collectors can choose the version that truly fits their space, lighting environment, and care preferences.
